Currently, the Los Lunas Schools has eight schools that meet the achievement levels established by the New Mexico Public Education Department for No Child Left Behind; one school is a delay pattern; and six schools did not meet state standards for student achievement. During the 2006-07 school year, the district undertook a number of initiatives to improve student achievement, including:
- hiring instructional coaches in all K to 6 schools
- the alignment of district curriculum across all content areas, grade levels, and schools;
- the adoption of a district-wide program of comprehensive literacy;
- the enhancement of mathematics instruction through the use of research-based classroom interventions;
- the regular use of short cycle assessment to monitor student progress; and
- the development of a comprehensive program of staff development.
