What are Content Standards?
On the national level, No Child Left Behind brings regulations regarding student achievement that is focused on state standards.
- Standards were created by the state of New Mexico to determine the proficiency levels of students by the end of each year in school.
- K-12 Grade level Power Standards were created by teacher teams from the NM State Standards in 2006:
- Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts and Physical Education

Why Use Content Standards?
- The standards-based reform is an effort to increase student achievement by setting high academic standards and working to help all students achieve the standards
- All students are expected to be proficient in their grade level standards by the end of the school year
