How Will the Standards-Based Report Card help students?

How will the Standards-Based Report Card help parents?

  • The new report card will provide parents with detailed information about their child's academic progress toward achieving grade level standards
  • Parents can identify their child's academic strengths and needs
  • If a child struggles in learning a standard, parents will know exactly which area to provide review and practice at home
  • The Standard-Based Report Card provides a focused and detailed profile of your child's academic performance

Why use a Standards-Based Report Card?

  • The standards-based report card allows parents to see their child's progress in each academic standard
  • With a standards-based report card, parents can monitor their child's progress as he/she works toward each of the NM State Content Standards

What are Content Standards?

On the national level, No Child Left Behind brings regulations regarding student achievement that is focused on state standards.

  • Standards were created by the state of New Mexico to determine the proficiency levels of students by the end of each year in school.
  • K-12 Grade level Power Standards were created by teacher teams from the NM State Standards in 2006:
    • Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts and Physical Education

Why Use Content Standards?

  • The standards-based reform is an effort to increase student achievement by setting high academic standards and working to help all students achieve the standards
  • All students are expected to be proficient in their grade level standards by the end of the school year
