TECHNOLOGY VISION AND GOALS

TECHNOLOGY VISION

The Los Lunas Schools will utilize information technology at the school, office, classroom, and community level to support students, staff members, and community residents by:

  • Supporting (1) the delivery of the Los Lunas Curriculum, (2) the effective and efficient operation of the school district; (3) effective communication within and beyond the schools, and (4) personal growth and learning;
  • Supporting and expecting the mastery of appropriate job or grade level technology knowledge and skills;
  • Providing appropriate and relevant technology learning resources to all community residents within the Los Lunas Schools

GUIDING PRINCIPALS

  1. Technology will be integrated into all aspects of the Los Lunas Schools, including classroom instruction, student learning activities and school management and administration.
  2. Teachers will have desktop access at the classroom level to computer technology, supporting the development of effective classroom lessons, technology-based classroom instruction, and learning activities that integrate technology across the curriculum.
  3. Students will have desktop access at the classroom level to computer technology, allowing them to work efficiently, effectively, and independently to gather appropriate information, solve problems, and communicate with others within and beyond the walls of the school.
  4. All staff will be provided with the time, training, and support that will enable them to learn how to use technology as a teaching tool and as a resource for professional development.
  5. The Los Lunas Schools Teacher Resource Center will serve as the technology training hub for the district, providing distance learning opportunities for Los Lunas staff while also broadcasting professional development activities to our schools and beyond.
  6. The Los Lunas Schools will utilize well-researched, technology-based learning materials in classroom throughout the district. Such materials must go through a rigorous screening process and be adopted for classroom use at the district level.
  7. Teachers and students will use technology to:
    • Obtain, evaluate, analyze, and synthesize information accurately and effectively;
    • Develop and collaborate on "real world" projects, important to their own learning;
    • Prepare to use technology effectively throughout their education and their careers;
    • Engage in challenging and thought-provoking tasks;
    • Participate in meaningful communication within and outside the school;
    • Support all learners through the use of appropriate assistive learning tools; and
    • Connect to available post-secondary and workforce learning opportunities.
  8. The Los Lunas Schools will continue to develop and modify this plan toward the goal of continuously providing students, staff, and community residents with the opportunity to utilize state-of-the-art information resources to support personal learning.
