Football Friday

Football Friday. It's become an annual event in Ashley Wolfe's preschool class at Katherine Gallegos Elementary.

"We're just here showing them that we're good examples and here to have fun with them," explained T.S., a Los Lunas High School senior and football player.

The team split up and joined the children, who were playing at different centers around the classroom. They joined the students for center time, recess, and broke up into small groups to read to them. A couple of players joined a little boy who was playing a cashier.

"How much for this celery?" a player asked.

"A hundred bucks," the child answered.

"A hundred dollars? That's expensive celery!" laughed the players.

While the class enjoyed spending time with the players, it was also a time for learning. Football Friday coincided with Ms. Wolfe's lesson in the letter F.

But the experience also meant a lot to the team.

"They've been playing a lot and having lots of crazy imagination and it's fun to show them to have fun," said T.S.

For Ms. Wolfe, it' was a joy watching the players interact with her class, while being an inspiration on and off the field.

"The young men who came into my classroom were extremely respectful, polite, helpful and energetic," she said. "Four-year olds are highly impressionable and I am so thankful that they had the opportunity to be influenced by outstanding role models such as these young men."

Ms. Wolfe said the team is a true representation of Tiger Pride and they bring honor not only to the football program, but also to their school and the community.
