Sonya Corrao Moya was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts to Leo and Dorie Corrao. Her family moved to New Mexico after serving two years in the Peace Corps in Sierra Leon, West Africa. Her parents were adamant about their children's involvement in community and leadership organizations, such as 4-H and FFA, all the while encouraging academic achievement. Sonya credits her parents for her strong work ethic and dedication to community service.

Sonya met her husband, Jerry A. Moya, at the University of New Mexico while they were pursuing their degrees. They have been married 30 years, and have one son, Jesse. Jesse was valedictorian of the first graduating class of Valencia High School (2010), and is a graduate of New Mexico State University.

Sonya holds a BA from the University of New Mexico in Communication, with a double minor in Math and Business Administration. With her love of recreation, her first career was as a store manager for Gardenswartz Sportz, where she worked for more than 12 years. She began working for Presbyterian Health Plan in 1995, and is currently Senior Account Executive for Large and National Accounts for the health plan.

Sonya sits on the UNM-VC Development Board, and is an active committee member for the annual UNM-VC Gala. She is an accomplished Toastmaster (ATM), involved with United Way Women in Philanthropy, and has not forgotten her roots by continuing to support our local 4-H and FFA chapters.

Sonya is an avid runner, and has recently embraced weight training & yoga. She enjoys downhill skiing in the winter, and boating and camping in the summer. She and Jerry are avid outdoor enthusiasts. When not riding on Jerry's Harley, they can be found walking their dogs or bike riding on the ditch banks of Valencia and Peralta.
