Language Support
Los Lunas Schools is committed to providing access to education for all students by offering comprehensive language support services. The district supports students who are multilingual and those whose primary language is not English through Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) services. These supports are designed to help students develop English language proficiency while continuing to access grade-level academic content.
Los Lunas Schools also values and honors the cultural and linguistic heritage of its community. In recognition of the importance of Indigenous languages, the district supports instruction and cultural preservation efforts related to the Tewa language, promoting awareness, respect, and opportunities for students to engage with this language as part of their educational experience.
The district also offers foreign language courses to support students who would like to learn other languages. A Bilingual Seal will be awarded to students in accordance with the guidelines set by State Statute and District Policy. In order to receive the Bilingual Seal a student must earn their high school diploma.
Through qualified instructional staff, culturally responsive practices, and ongoing collaboration with families and community partners, Los Lunas Schools strives to ensure that language differences are recognized as strengths and that all students are supported in achieving academic success.
