The vision of Los Lunas Schools for inclusion is to make sure all students, regardless of their abilities, race, ethnicity, or cultural background, can succeed in their community schools. As a team, we work closely with staff, parents, and the community to make sure that everyone shares responsibility for every student. Our general education classrooms are where staff can provide them with extra support that’s seamlessly integrated into their learning environment.

VISION: Los Lunas Schools aspires to be an inclusionary district for all students.

MISSION: In partnership with families and the community, Los Lunas Schools will create and implement a system in which staff share the responsibility for all students to experience their full potential in general education classrooms in their school community. Knowing all students by their potential, who they are, and their out-of-school life experience is essential to students’ reaching their fullest potential. Ensuring their continued growth toward grade-level learning proficiency leading to graduation and preparation for productive and contributing community membership is the goal of the inclusion program.

To accomplish this vision, we commit to these GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

  • Our stakeholder community, including families and other community members, will receive timely and comprehensive information about implementing inclusion and will be provided opportunities to partner with us as we move forward.
  • Support in the form of materials, equipment, professional development, and
instructional coaching will be provided so that all staff can implement inclusion
successfully in our schools and classrooms.
  • Special education and general education staff will collaborate and coordinate their shared responsibility for addressing the needs of all students in their school community and general education classrooms.
  • There will be a teaching and learning process where teachers design and deliver
instruction that engages all students across all academic readiness levels through instructional activities that facilitate access to grade-level curriculum.
  • Student interests, capabilities, experiences, culture, and community will be viewed as assets within Los Lunas Schools’ inclusionary practices.
