Los Lunas Schools: Response to the COVID-19 Virus

Safety Planning & Centralizing Information:

  • All CDC and DOH guidelines will be followed.
  • Charge Nurse will be monitoring CDC and DOH recommendations and will be apprising us of the recommendations.
  • Mandates will be followed from the DOH, CDC, and PED.
  • Safe Schools Supplement for COVID-19 Protocols
  • Superintendent Sanders will disseminate information to staff, students and parents.

Current Guidance from CDC and DOH:

Social Distancing and Gatherings:

  • Schools are closed until April 6th.
  • Facility usage groups will not utilize our fields and gyms during the next three weeks.
  • All athletic events and practices are suspended.
  • Only essential staff will be working during the closure.
  • Graduation will continue as planned pending future PED direction.
  • Status of Proms and other large school events will be determined closer to the planned dates.

Extracurricular & Travel Limitations:

  • At this time all travel in state and out of state is canceled.
  • Athletic Events, Extracurricular Activities, Clubs, Field Trips, Guest Speakers are suspended until at least April 6th.
  • All outside groups utilizing our facilities are suspended until April 6th.

Procedures for Staff & Student Illnesses:

  • ​NMDOH and Superintendent contacted immediately
  • School closure for 24 hours
  • After the 24 hours, begin disinfecting the school and buses and then keep it closed for an additional 24 hours.
  • Affected individuals must remain out of school for 14 days
  • NMDOH and NMPED will be contacted to discuss the situation and determine if extended closure is warranted

PED Guidance on Health Crisis:

  • ​Governor and NMPED closed school until April 6th.
  • PED Memorandum (daily)
  • Superintendent/Secretary of Education Phone Conferences

Custodial Staff Procedures for School (Preventative Measures):

  • ​All custodians and maintenance employees trained on preventative disinfecting protocols on March 16th at each school site.
  • Essential staff including custodians and maintenance employees are working during the school closure.
    Disinfection of playground equipment and all buses.
  • CDC Germ Prevention Posters are Posted School Wide.

Custodial Staff Procedures for School (possible infection procedures):

  • All custodians and maintenance employees trained on preventative disinfecting protocols on March 16th.
  • They must refer to Safe Schools Supplement for COVID-19 Protocols.

Additional Information:

  • Starting on Tuesday, March 17th:
    Meal sites at LLHS, KGE, Peralta, LLE, DVE, Ann Parish, Meadow Lake Fire Station, Highland Meadows, Huning Park
  • Weekdays 11:30 - 1:00 (except for Holidays)
  • Grab and Go drive-thru distribution
  • Security will be provided by School Resource Officers and other local law enforcement agencies
