Peralta Elementary

The transformation of the brand-new Peralta Elementary School is reaching an exciting home stretch as the campus begins to look less like a construction zone and more like a vibrant space for learning.

Recent progress has seen construction crews successfully install modern playground equipment, creating a colorful focal point for future students to enjoy. Students will begin using the new playground in the New Year.

To ensure the site is functional and well-drained, teams have also laid down extensive gravel surfacing around the property, defining the perimeter and preparing the grounds for final landscaping.

These tangible updates signal a major milestone for the Los Lunas Schools community, bringing the vision of a state-of-the-art educational facility one step closer to reality.

Construction crews are also completing concrete curb work during the Winter Break, including in the area of the PreK section of the new school. They will also be completing the synthetic turf field as well as finishing the asphalt bus loop, which will be reading for families to use once students return from Winter Break.

Ongoing infrastructure upgrades at Los Lunas Elementary School are significantly enhancing the campus's durability and accessibility. A major focus of the current site work involves improved drainage systems, where strategically placed rock sections have been installed to manage stormwater runoff more effectively.

Complementing these utility upgrades, crews have poured new concrete sidewalks, providing students and staff with smoother, safer pathways throughout the property.

These refinements not only modernize the school's exterior but also ensure that the "Heart of Los Lunas" remains a functional and welcoming environment for the entire community.

Security Shades

The Los Lunas Schools Facilities Department is working to standardize window security across all school sites (photographed: Valencia Middle School wrestling room). During a comprehensive audit, the department discovered a mix of non-standardized shades across various campuses, some of which lacked necessary fire ratings. To ensure maximum safety, the district is now transitioning to a unified, fire-rated, and weighted shade system at all school sites. These specialized blackout shades are designed for rapid deployment: they are secured by a simple Velcro tab when rolled up, but in the event of an emergency, a quick pull allows the weighted hem to drop instantly, fully obscuring the view into the room to protect students and staff.

schematic design of new Ann Parish Elementary

Ann Parish Elementary

Exciting progress is being made on the new Ann Parish Elementary School! The Public School Facilities Authority (PSFA) recently approved the project's schematic design, officially moving the project into the crucial design development phase. This next step involves detailed planning of the interior spaces and requires extensive collaboration across the district. LLS is initiating a series of meetings with multiple district departments, teachers, and special education staff to ensure the final design creates adequate and optimal learning environments. The district also successfully held the first key department meeting, which included the State Fire Marshal, the Los Lunas Schools Safety and Security Department, the Valencia County Fire Marshal, and representatives from the Valencia County Sheriff's Office. The focus of this essential meeting was safety and security, where the group reviewed and discussed the specific locations of fire hydrants, primary access points, security fencing, and ensuring efficient access routes for all first responders. This was the first of several critical departmental meetings scheduled over the coming weeks to finalize the design details of the new, safe, and modern campus.

Also, the project at Peralta Elementary is moving forward following the demolition of all existing buildings. A new basketball court has been installed, and the contractor is currently working on the north-east parking lot and the new parent pick-up/drop-off area. This new area is anticipated to open mid-November, following some delays that were unfortunately caused by weather.

Significant accessibility improvements were made at Raymond Gabaldon Elementary, where a full wheelchair accessibility playground structure, a communication board, and an accessibility swing were installed. Similar accessibility playground equipment is scheduled to be installed at Tomé Elementary, Sundance Elementary, and Valencia Elementary in the near future.

At Los Lunas High School, our in-house maintenance crews completed the installation of an aggregate walking path along the main entrance road, providing a much safer route for students than walking in the roadway.

Century High School

Century High School's library has undergone a significant refresh, transforming the space into a more modern, collaborative, and inviting learning environment for students. Last year, the LLS Facilities and Procurement collaborated with CHS students and staff to modernize the school ibrary. The renovation focused on enhancing both aesthetics and functionality, starting with the installation of new furniture and new flexible learning spaces designed to improve functionality, support a variety of student needs, and create an inviting environment that reflects an appropriate grade-level atmosphere. The transformed space better supports learning, collaboration, and student engagement.

Peralta Elementary

Continued construction at Peralta Elementary has resulted in several key improvements now in use. The new parent drop-off and pick-up lane has been completed and is fully operational, and the newly built staff parking lot is open for employees on site. Students are now enjoying access to the outdoor basketball courts, while steady progress continues on the installation of new playground equipment and the development of the school’s new bus loop.

Ann Parish Elementary design

Ann Parish Elementary

The new Ann Parish Elementary School project is continuing its robust Design Development phase through extensive User Group Meetings, which are crucial for finalizing the school's layout and functionality. The design team has already completed comprehensive meetings with key personnel, including those focused on Classroom / Special Education needs, the Administration Suite / Nurse / Custodial areas, and the Playground facilities. Specialized instructional and support areas were also addressed in completed sessions with the Band / Innovations / Art / Library groups. Furthermore, critical non-instructional components were finalized through meetings with Security / First Responders and Transportation personnel. Currently, the design process is engaging in on-going User Group Meetings to detail the requirements for Technology integration and Student Nutrition services, ensuring the final campus design is both comprehensive and tailored to the needs of the entire school community.

Katherine Gallegos Elementary

Concrete repairs at Katherine Gallegos Elementary School are underway to address necessary maintenance and safety improvements on the campus. While the specific details and scope of recent projects may vary, typical school infrastructure updates include repairing or replacing damaged concrete surfaces such as sidewalks and curbing to ensure safe and accessible pathways for students, staff, and visitors. These maintenance efforts are essential for preventing trip hazards, managing water runoff, and preserving the longevity of the school's facilities, supporting the goal of providing a secure and well-maintained learning environment for the students.

Other Projects

  • New bathroom partitions at Valencia Elementary
  • Doors painted at Los Lunas High School
  • New propane tank at the Transportation Department
