State Concert Band & Choir Concerts Cancelled

State Concert Band & Choir Concerts Cancelled
Posted on 03/16/2020
Letter from the New Mexico Activities Association regarding the cancellation of this year's State Concert Band and Choir Contests due to COVID-19:

In light of the cancellation of all school events for three weeks, in addition to the change in the CDC guidelines for the number of people gathered in a facility to only 50 for the next eight weeks, the NMAA has made the decision to cancel this year’s State Concert Band and Choir Contests.

We have received guidance and feedback from our Band and Choral Advisory Councils, as well as the leadership of the NMMEA, and have also been made aware of the fact that we cannot use the host facility during the month of April, so the decision to cancel was made final earlier today.

If you have already registered for either State Band or State Choir, our office will be refunding your entry fees. If we have received a P.O. and have already invoiced you, we will do a credit memo for the payment.

We wish that circumstances were different and that your ensembles were able to perform and compete next moth but all that is going on relative to the weeks of lost instructional time as well as other logistical factors, it just cannot happen this year. I know this is disappointing for the kids and our hearts truly go out to them, especially to the seniors.

We hope you are all hanging in there during what is one of the strangest events any of us have ever seen! Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,
Dana Marie Pappas, CAA
