To help prevent the spread of the virus, NMPED is requiring all elementary staff and students to wear masks and secondary school staff and students who are unvaccinated to wear masks. However, with guidance from the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Los Lunas Schools has made the decision to require all students, staff and visitors who enter a district facility or school building to wear face coverings, regardless of their vaccination status.

“Los Lunas Schools always keeps the safety and health of our students and staff at the forefront,” says Dr. Arsenio Romero, Superintendent of Los Lunas Schools. “With this in mind, the school district will require masks for everyone.”

Dr. Romero says the district will revisit the mask requirement at each meeting with the Los Lunas Schools Governing Committee.

“We will reevaluate monthly based on recommendations from the NMDOH and CDC,” he says.

In addition to the mask requirement, students, staff and visitors will undergo temperature checks as they enter district buildings. Los Lunas Schools is also encouraging everyone to adhere to the 6-foot social distancing standard when possible.

For families who would like their students to continue with full online learning for the 2021-2022 school year, Los Lunas Schools is offering the K-8 Family School Digital Academy. This is the only online option for students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade.
