Student Registration: 2022-2023

Parents/guardians may register their student for the 2022-2023 School Year. If you have a Parent Portal account, please login and register each of your students, as well as update important information. Please make sure to save and submit the information.

This for is for current Los Lunas students attending on a transfer in 2021-22 school year and who wish to remain at current site for 2022-23 school year. You MUST submit one form for each child.

What are the conditions for a transfer in the Los Lunas Schools?

-Transportation must be provided by the family. LLS does not provide transportation for students who attend a school outside their attendance boundaries.

-All transfer acceptances are based on space and availability in the receiving school.

-Acceptance of a transfer student will be for the duration of the student’s academic life at that level (elementary, middle, or high school) AS LONG AS SPACE ALLOWS.

-Transfers may be revoked if a school does not have space for an upcoming school year. Should the need to revoke transfers to accommodate space occur, transfers will be revoked in the reverse order of acceptance within the grade level/s that require/s a reduction of numbers.

-Waiting lists will be maintained for one year only and will not carry over from one year to the next.

-One transfer will be granted per year. If a family no longer wishes to attend the school
they transferred to, they may return to their assigned neighborhood school.

-If a student disenrolls from the school they transferred to, the disenrollment invalidates the transfer. Disenrollment includes long-term suspension and expulsion from the transfer school.

-The LLS transfer policy is not connected to New Mexico Activities Association’s (NMAA) eligibility rules. An approved transfer does not guarantee NMAA eligibility. Eligibility questions should be directed to the Athletics office.

-The Superintendent or designee is authorized to initiate an administrative transfer in the best interest of a student, pending available space.

-Students of military families who are granted a transfer may pre-register in their transfer school prior to physically moving to the district.

What is my assigned school?

-The school boundary areas determine school assignments. Students must enroll in their assigned school unless they apply for and are accepted for a transfer.

If my student attends a school on a transfer in 2021-22, do I still have to fill out a transfer form?

-Yes, returning transfer students will complete a form they will receive from their principal to confirm enrollment in 2022-23. Students with accepted transfers in 2021-22 will remain in their current school pending available space. Do not complete the new student transfer form.

Can I only apply for a new transfer during the window of March 28 to April 10 for 2022-23?

Yes.

Who needs to apply for a new transfer?

-Students who are entering kindergarten, seventh grade, or ninth grade who wish to attend a school that is not their assigned school

-Students who want to attend a school that is not their assigned school in 2022-23

-Students who attend a school in 2021-22, are moving outside the attendance boundary, and wish to stay at the school in 2022-23

What are the priorities for transfer acceptance?

1st priority: Students who live in the attendance boundary of a school that is designated by the NM Public Education Department (PED) criteria for Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI), Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI), or Direct Student Services (DSS).

2nd priority: Students who attend the school, have moved outside the attendance boundary, and wish to remain in the school (continuous enrollment in the school is required for this priority).

3rd priority: All other reasons, including children of school or district employees, younger siblings of enrolled transfer students, children of active-duty military, after-school care, location proximity to parent/s workplace, friendships, etc.

4th priority: Students who live outside the LLS district boundary.

How are transfer request forms processed?

The LLS Data and Accountability Office will conduct the lottery by priority level in compliance with district policy and applicable state and federal guidelines. Transfers are not granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

When will I be notified if my child’s transfer request has been accepted for 2022-23?

Notifications will be emailed by the last day of school.

What if my student doesn’t get into the school?

Students will be placed in prioritized lottery order on a waiting list. If space becomes available, families will be notified in order. Families should register at the assigned neighborhood school to ensure accuracy in enrollment numbers.
